HELLO (single) vs. HELLO -ALBUM MIX-
Okay, so this has been going on for awhile. I'll listen to HELLO... great song, and I'll listen to uploads of the song that claim to be the "ALBUM MIX." ... Still a great song, but really I can't help but wonder what's the difference between the two? The vocals are exactly the same, the rhythm and melody are exactly the same, and the length of the two songs are exactly the same.

I originally thought "Maybe there's a difference in the distortion of the guitars in this one?" But no. The distortion still sounds pretty much the same.

So really what's the difference? Am I missing something?

RE: HELLO (single) vs. HELLO -ALBUM MIX-
I don't think there is a difference. I am under the impression that ALBUM MIX just meant that it was thrown in for the hell of it. Like LINK -Kiss Mix- from L'Arc KISS Album.

Although sometimes, when a song appears in more than two albums, then they might have some differences. For example, for the song, snow drop, I noticed the bass was more noticeable from The Best of L'Arc~en~Ciel 1998 - 2000 compared to RAY.

It was also pointed out by MajinStylee, a L'Arc Guitar Pro tabber, that some songs are played a little differently in Clicked Singles Best 13 than the album they are originally from.

No, Link on the KISS album ends like it ends live with the drums; 'bang bang bang'. Where the single version fades out with the strings and all. Listen to the ending of them both, there is a big difference. As for hello I don't know XD

OMG! I cannot believe I messed that up! You're totally right! Sorry, I never gotten ahold of LINK single. Guess I need to make sure before giving my two cents next time. :(

I don't know about Clicked Singles, but with most L'Arc songs, the album mix usually means that they have a full ending as opposed to just fading out. See the single and album versions of Lies and Truth.

But yeah, I pretty much think you're right with HELLO though. The -Album Mix- was put there just for the hell of it.

I think it just means it's a different recording.

Like with HELLO, they record the single, print it and release it, so on..

But then when they record the album, they record the song along with all the other album song's, so the song's recorded again.
There might be a difference, there might not. Sometimes they might play the song differently on purpose, just changing it up a little here or there, like with Yukkie's drumming on Link (KISS ver. vs. Single ver.) which I also noticed XD

...
AND when there's no ~ALBUM MIX~ / whatever
then it probably means they used the original recording and put it on the album, instead of recording it again. :P

They don't re-record the whole song just for the album. That's stupid.
With LINK; Yukihiro added a new drumming track and Ken's guitar became louder like at the start with the strings you can actually hear his guitar compared
to the single version which drowns out his guitar.

L'Arc like alot of good bands record their instruments in part so if it doesn't work you can just delete it. Try the hitomi no juunin(I think) single with Ready Steady Go! You can hear it missing each instrument.

Kenless ver, Hydeless ver ectera.

That's generally how they build a track...

Well, the thing about that theory is that if they recorded it again, then by the laws of nature there would be at least a subtle but noticeable difference between the two, which there isn't.

Sorry, I didn't word myself exactly right. When I say different recording, I don't mean EVERYTHING'S recorded all over again. I mean previous recordings may have been mixed again, or just in a different way. And when a song's "re-mixed" it's not always something noticible. Maybe they record the other album songs, and hyde wanted the audio slightly louder for those song's then it was for HELLO's single, so on the album they reset HELLO's audio levels to match the rest of the album. It could be anything really

RE: HELLO (single) vs. HELLO -ALBUM MIX-
Sorry, flower, but my fellow guest is actually right. Most songs are re-recorded for the album if they were written prior - if you put out a single before the album, then definitely so, because this is done to spark interest in the album, even though only a draft is present of it at the moment the single is out. Also, a single may be re-recorded if the artist realizes that the mastering or a certain line in a song is not quite fitting with the rest of the album.

Secondly, recording a song isn't at all hard if you have already got a version of it ready, it's only hard the first time. Less popular bands don't do it because of the studio rental costs, but there's no reason for an established musician like HYDE or a band like Vamps or L'arc to do otherwise. In fact - it's even encouraged.
Also to add to that previous post, since I didn't see certain parts - of course there would be subtle differences, but if you use the exact same equipment and the exact same settings, the same studios, those differences are only noticeable to people with very sharp, trained hearing, i.e., experienced musicians and sound technicians. Which makes the point moot.
