I guess when you put in that context, it certainly does sound in character. It doesn't make for good song material, though. At least, not in my opinion.
Interesting that person should mention it being about such a relationship, though, as I would never have thought of that. Looking at Megchan's translation I can actually see how this song could be about just that. Sort of changes my perspective on both the acoustic and original versions of the song, though I still don't like the sound for either of them.

Now, I don't like the song myself, but people are seriously criticizing it because it's just HYDE and a keyboard? I mean, perhaps there's a point that I'm missing here, but I don't see that as... well, a reasonable criticism.
1) The percussion section is definitely there, completely audible. At least to me. I don't know if an actual bass is present, but there is a lower-pitched instrument there that you can just barely make out.
2) Lots of songs are just keyboard/piano with a singer. It's not unheard of for some singers to make careers out writing songs with no instrument other than the piano, however most of said artists are classical or otherwise no longer culturally relevant. Still, though, even some more modern artists have made some fantastic products with only keyboard and vocals. One example is the live piano version of Gackt's Last Song, which in itself is my favorite song by him but this particular version is, in my opinion, at least 1000 times better than the original version. There's just so much passion and emotion to it.
I mean, I guess I can understand if they were to say that the keyboard and vocals were just... not good. (Although if this were released as an instrumental, I think it would be 500 times better) But I don't quite understand the criticism of "it's just keyboards and HYDE," as though that in itself makes it bad. But you know, to each their own opinion, I suppose. I've not been paying too much attention to what other people have been saying about it outside this forum, so maybe I'm missing something.
