The venue is smack dab in the middle of a bunch of train lines. Public transportation is the way to go.

It is a pretty expensive area with a lot of tourist traffic around, so I hope people will pop in with suggestions for hotels that won't break the bank nearby. I live here, so I have no hotel knowledge to speak of, sorry.

I second this. Definitely don't drive to the venue in New York City. You can take the D and E trains which will take you to Seventh Avenue on 53rd street. They are the closest subway trains to the venue which is on 52nd street and seventh avenue. They should run smoothly during the weekend, but I can't promise they won't randomly decide to skip a street. ;D

If that doesn't float your boat, take a taxi. Depending on how close your hotel is from the venue (like 10 or so streets or avenues away) it could be as cheap as 6 dollars. Don't take the black taxis -- just the yellow ones. Taxis aren't as expensive as everyone claims if you use them correctly.
