I agree that the economy has a HUGE impact upon ticket sales right now. It is hard to justify "extras" when there is no money for basic necessities. With so many losing their jobs, or going to, or unable to find work, what money you have can only be stretched so far. Plus I figure the hard-core fans are already on this forum and are going to the shows. Casual fans may not have the funds or *horrors* may not know about the shows. Hopefully we are reaching some of them through our advertising. Plus there are tons of music fans who have never heard of VAMPS. (I don't know 99.9% of any American musical groups....don't listen to the radio and only listen to jrock that has been purchased or on YouTube.) At least their ticket prices are reasonable and that makes the shows easier to go to. It is the transportation, lodging, food, etc. that kills you.

like you, I think I'm one of the few fans that actually prefers Hyde anything over L'arc~en~ciel. Oh, I do looove laruku and I hope I can see them someday; but I do love Hyde's solo work best. I think I really love Hyde's solo work because there is something dark about his music and the lyrics seem so truthful and pure and raw.
Roentgen - I really liked how smooth this album was. I liked the variety of instruments. I liked the range and dynamics of this album, how it had songs that were light/romantic and songs that were dark/corrupt. The English version was also great too.
666 - I also really liked this album and the B-side songs that came out with some of the singles. I really liked the rock theme of this album and the lyrics. I think Hyde's interest in Christianity was coming out here too and overall I just found this album very intoxicating.
Faith - overall this is my favorite album. Because the lyrics are most meaningful to me and are just fascinating. I even wrote an interpretation of this album song by song. K.A.Z. didn't just collab on this album; he composed half of the songs. Some of my favorite songs he wrote.
Needless to say, I have a lot of faith in VAMPS ^___^ Sure the style is a tad different and things are more fun; maybe not as dark; but I'm still withholding judgment until the album comes out because I get the impression that it will be pretty dark like I like it ^^
RE: to ticket sales and the economy
I really think the two main problems here are that people don't know -who- VAMPS is. They don't know Hyde is a part of VAMPS. VAMPS is relatively new so not a lot of people are exposed to their music. And the other problem is probably that people don't know the concerts are even going on. The only reason I knew was because I subscribe to the VAMPS blog, I follow JaME and am a member at Jrockrevolution. But only recently have I seen ads on JRR for VAMPS and I think JaME only mentioned the VAMPS tour once. I think it would really help VAMPS if JRR did a bio on VAMPS and had some more promotion for the tour. I also think it'd help if JaME maybe did something more, an interview with VAMPS, or a contest to help promote the band and the upcoming tour?

While that's true and I totally agree with you, the other flip side to this is that there's a bunch of people who know about the tour, but simply can't afford to go. But, like you said, there's a lot of people who don't know about VAMPS and that's why we need to combine our strengths and reach out to people who aren't in the know. It's hard, but if we all keep spreading the word about the tour in all corners of the internet, then it should help. ;)

They are too focused on L'Arc~en~Ciel. I personally think it's great that each of the members are doing solo because it allows them to experiment and bring it back to L'Arc~en~Ciel. That's the reason why that makes the band so great, because each member has a different style to contribute and the rest could adapt easily whether or not it's their favorite style.
hyde is rock. tetsu is pop. yukihiro is... metal/industrial?. ken is.... don't know. lol. And to be honest... I only find hyde and testu's solo work much more appealing. That's just my opinion, I'm sure others like yuki and ken's solos.
To be EVEN MORE honest. I like HYDE more than VAMPS. And I'm a bit sad that VAMPS has taken over, even though it has the same members (hyde x k.a.z). The only reason why I'm listening to VAMPS it's cause it's hyde! Biased to give a chance. Don't get me wrong. I like VAMPS music. EVANESCENT is absolutely beautiful. Almost SEASON'S CALL-ish. But HYDE will remain above VAMPS for me.
To be even even MORE honest. I really like the VAMPS album. I was afraid it was going to disappoint, but nope, VAMPS delivered. Their songs just gives you so much energy. It's loud(good kind of loud), catchy, and rock. I can't wait for their arrival.
----------
The post echoes my feelings 100%.
Also, I think Hyde took a bit of a hit on name recognition when he decided not to use his name. It makes it that much harder to promote to people who may only have a passing familiarity with Hyde, but still would recognize his name.
That said, I respect K.A.Z, and I have for as long as I've had Faith. I know K.A.Z is a big part of why that album is so awesome, cos he wrote a bunch of the songs.....but my wife only knows him as "that cute bouncy guy from Faith Live". She knows better now, but you get my point.
I also respect Hyde because he respects K.A.Z enough to not consider him just a supporting member, and is willing to go by a different name to illustrate that fact. That's ballsy, as is releasing songs in 100% English, when Hyde himself said that they have no chance of going to the top of the charts because of that fact.
I can't wait to read the next 3 pages to see what everybody else said. Hopefully nobody's getting flamed.
Also, it pisses me off that the Hyde Wikipedia page list VAMPS as Hyde's "support band". WTF!!!!!!

I believe they are "closet" VAMPS fans! I mean they are just going with the "groove" of things and pretending they don't like VAMPS because its "cool" right now. I know how they work LOL
I agree with this too. You know some of those *LARUKU!!!!! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!11" girls are secretly grooving on Vamps when they're alone in their rooms, feeling naughty.
Wait, what were we talking about?

I changed my name @ Kotaku.com from "Billkwando" to "Billkwando bought his tickets for Hyde's US tour", because that place gets thousands of views, and I'm a star commentor so my name stands out.
Anything I can do for the cause, lol.

RE: I'm sad
don't want to sound negative, just stating an impression i have from talking to folks here and there. it's not just an issue of VAMPS' name or HYDE's not being recognized here in the states. L'Arc and Oblivion Dust are pretty unknown to the majority of citizens, even the teen->twenty-somethings. Japanese music, whether pop, rock or any other genre is still flying under the radar, so to speak. you mention J-rock and people automatically picture VK, or more specifically that the band will either LOOK like an anime cartoon character or a cross between anime and gothic-punk-screamo somethings. that is if they have any notions about modern Japanese music or pop-culture at all. XD
what i mean is , VAMPS is having to fight against 1) no name recognition and 2) mistaken stereotyping of music 3) along with the economic crisis and other issues already mentioned. this definitely will affect ticket sales. and even more sad, some people won't give them a try just because in some parts of this big nation of ours there are still people who haven't gotten over some long held irrational dislike of all things Japanese. you all know it's true, whether we want to think it or not. and while you'd hope that these fears and feelings would have died out by now, not that I can see a real basis for their existence at all, not everyone sees things from a world view or has had occasion to become enlightened about any place outside of their own little corner of the world. and i'm not trash-talking any groups or areas. fans of Jrock are still a small minority around here.
sorry to sound so pessimistic. i really wish none of those things were at all true. and i've just had so much sadness on a personal level, it's coloring my entire perception right now. having to push really hard to regain my earlier excitement levels. but that's my problem, not this forum's.

I think what you said above is definitely true. We are fighting an uphill battle but we are going to continue to fight. You mention Jrock and people just stare at you. VAMPS....never heard of them. But we are slowly gaining members here and we continue to advertise and promote. My big fear is that if they don't do well, they won't come back. (They are not even here yet and I am looking towards the future!) I am doing what I can to promote in the area where I live and will continue to do so....right up until concert time. When I get depressed about lack of interest I watch the live performance of Hello and then I work harder. I want to hear that song live so d*mn bad ........
