Cath, H.P., thanks for the answers about refund issues. I paid with PayPal, and I believe they did, in fact, complete the transaction at the time of payment. What it looks like to me, is that I paid the conversion fee when I made the pre-order, and now, I'm paying the conversion fee on the refund, too, instead of CDJapan paying it! Plus, the U.S. dollar is worth more yen now, than when I paid for this, months ago.

I'm wondering, if I tell PayPal that this is a refund, whether they are obliged to give me back all that I paid, in my currency, to refund an equal amount to what I paid, since the order is cancelled.

So, everybody, is this item still being released, or has it been released, anywhere? On catchbon, the machine translation sort of looks to me as if they still expect it to be released, and are cancelling the original orders, but expect to take orders again later.

P.S. ~ I haven't checked, yet, but I suspect I'm losing money on the exchange rate with this refund, regarding what the same amount of yen was worth in US dollars when I paid for this, versus the amount of US dollars I'm being refunded, based upon a current exchange rate. I wonder if there's any way to address that?

I would think that they would return what you sent them, rate difference or not. I'm sure they still have the original orders. Mine was bundled with something else so it is not the exaxt amount.

I just got the notification this morning as well. If you ordered your photobook through CDJapan, you will not be getting a refund because your credit card isn't actually charged until the item actually ships. What CDJapan does is make an initial charge when you first purchase the item, just to make sure you have sufficient funds, and then the funds are essentially put back into your account/not charged. You will be charged again a few days after your item has shipped. They do this because of scenarios like this where an item becomes unavailable and to avoid having to issue refunds or if the item somehow gets lost in the shipping process. This sort of gives the customer time to contact CDJapan if their item hasn't arrived within the specified time frame. Does this make sense?

At any rate, it pretty much sucks that they cancelled the photobook. .__.

To my knowledge, the item is not available for pre-order anywhere. The item has been cancelled by the publisher, which means vendors will not make the item available for purchase (or pre-order). Prior to the receipt of this email, CDJapan was still taking orders because the publisher had indicated that the release date was postponed indefinitely, which meant the item could possibly be released at a later date. CDJapan was sort of still holding out on the hope that the book would still be released, just at a later date. See a response to an email I had sent them:

"Hi

Thank you for your e-mail.

I looked into it.

As you already knew, the item publish date has been postponed.

However our supplier are considering to keep the order until the publisher decide the new release date.

We are now waiting for the response from them if they will keep our order or better to cancel once.

We will update our item page when everything is clear.

Should you require any assistance, please feel free to contact us again."


However, CDJapan has now gotten word that the item was now cancelled entirely by the publisher, so they have cancelled all orders for the book placed with them. CDJapan was the only place where you could still pre-order the book, as Japan-Discoveries and Catchbon had already begun issuing refunds/cancelling orders.

So, unless there is another seller out there I'm unaware of that's still accepting orders for the book (though I don't understand why they would since it has been cancelled completely), then there is no place where you can pre-order the photobook.

As for the issue with the PayPal conversion fees, I'd contact PayPal directly and inquire about that. They may be able to ask CDJapan on your behalf for the amount that you're out, but don't quote me on that. If PayPal is uncooperative, contact CDJapan directly and ask for the difference and see if they can just credit your bank account directly or something. PayPal has been a real pain these days with all their fees, so I hope you're able to collect the money you're owed. Good luck and I hope this helps.

It may not be with cdjapan. PayPal has its own conversion fee schedule. To cdjapan, a yen is a yen is a yen.

I actually think that I came out a little ahead unless the shipping was ungodly and I've forgotten that.
