Your Thoughts On MOON CHILD and Kagen No Tsuki
For some reason, I became curious as to everyone's opinion on the two. For those who haven't heard or have just been living even further under a rock (the portion of the rock that has no internet) for a few years, MOON CHILD is a 2003 film in which HYDE plays a vampire named Kei and Kagen no Tsuki (Last Quarter) is a 2004 film in which HYDE plays a ghost named Adam.

HERE'S MY BIASED REVIEWS OF THEM - WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOILERS

MOON CHILD
For most people, I've noticed this movie is hit-or-miss. Some praise it for having HYDE (and Gackt) shooting people, others praise it for having HYDE as a vampire shooting people, which is, admittedly, pretty badass. I personally find it sort of along the same lines as BLOOD: The Last Vampire. The movie itself had potential, but failed to live up to it (hence the creation of BLOOD+, although there has been no MOON CHILD+ unfortunately).

To start, though, the movie is good at catching attention. The trailer makes it look like the best damn movie in the world, and the beginning in which we can see Kei (HYDE) and his friend rushing through the innards of the city as the news reporter explains the economic crisis in Japan really gets you intrigued and aching to see how this movie will go on.

Unfortunately, that's about as good as the movie gets. The special effects, i.e. when Kei's unnamed fellow vampire friend bursts into flames when exposed to the sun and when Kei is jumping through the air with the blur effect, are cheesy and over-the-top; not to mention, extremely unrealistic-looking. Second and probably one of the most important aspects, for a movie about a vampire, we really don't ever see his fangs nor do we ever see him ever bite and drink. All we really get is Kei doing... something... to a dead man's body and then lifting up his head to reveal blood all over his face, which isn't really scary. The acting is pretty poor, which is a shame because HYDE is not really a bad actor, as I will explain in my Kagen no Tsuki section, as much as the direction was awful.

However, like I said, the movie itself had potential but fell under cruel, probably money-hungry circumstances. The script was beautifully written, but horridly portrayed. Although it is very cultural in nature, it is still very relate-able. Despite all its flaws, however, I did enjoy the movie because... well, it features HYDE shooting people and that's somehow very addictive ;3 Besides, what other movie do we get a duet from HYDE and Gackt? None! - Final score, 6/10

Kagen no Tsuki
This movie is a bit better. It's not exactly perfect but it's still worth the watch. This movie is usually praised, albeit mostly by HYDE fans, for its romance and dark story. I personally find it a great movie, but has many scenes of sheer "Oh, god, am I -really- watching this?"

One thing I like about this movie is how the plot builds up very nicely. Although, I don't quite understand how one person would get a photo of Mizuki's boyfriend cheating on her ON HER MOBILE PHONE (seriously wtf? Was she peeping on them? ... Pervert), I soon forget that question and am able to focus on the main subject at hand soon enough. Mizuki's running away from all her troubles (among which are her cheating boyfriend and dysfunctional family) is extremely relatable, although you still tend to wonder why she would just walk into someone's house like that, even if she did think it was abandoned.

In said house, she meets a ghost named Adam (HYDE), and I swear although I am a huge fan of HYDE's voice, his facial expressions alone are enough to keep me entertained, which is good considering he barely speaks through the whole movie. But that's not to say his moments of dialogue are not spectacular. HYDE's persona brings an interesting sense of mysteriousness and even sadness to the film.

Like MOON CHILD the script is very beautifully written. The representation through the cast and crew is not exactly perfect, but it's still very nice nevertheless. The special effects aren't so great, but the directors must have been aware of this as they're much more subtle and more in-place in this movie.

Of course, the movie has quite a few drawbacks. For example, some of the scenes are incredibly boring. Also, the mysteries within it seem to be solved without any sort of logical clues. It just seems to hit them. On that same note, part of a mystery is having to think about it yourself (as the viewer), and like most Japanese mysteries and Scooby-Doo, you are robbed of that chance. Another thing is that they had HYDE try to speak with a British accent, so that made his English in the movie very difficult to understand. THE CAPE OF STORMS is a tad overused in this film, although the piano and acoustic guitar renditions are done beautifully and is probably good enough reason to watch the movie on its own.

The visual scenery has a dark, Tim Burton-style to it that sort of defines HYDE's personality, in my opinion. Although the scenery suffers from cartoony atmosphere, it sort of gives the movie a delightful sense of cuteness. The acting is also not so bad. Far from perfect, but it very well done, in my opinion Final notes, I was left in tears at the end of the movie. Despite the strongly fictional story, the emotions feel very realistic and despite all its boring scenes, there's at least a thousand interesting and beautiful scenes to it. But it's not for everyone, particularly those not into the drama genre or those not into movies that, more or less, are about a teenage girl that just needs a place to vent her emotions. Final score, 8/10.

So your turn. TELL ME. I NEED TO KNOWZ

RE: Your Thoughts On MOON CHILD and Kagen No Tsuki
Wheeeee!!!! I saw those movies too!!! ;w;

MOON CHILD
I dicovered Moon Child a week after I began listening to L'arc~en~Ciel, I learned "HYDE" acted with "Gackt" there, googled, found Vanilla PV and decided I must had that movie! So I went to a local store and ordered... it took almost two months to arrive X-D So I saw it on youtube clips in advance >.> It took forever but I couldn't wait!!! LOL Anyways... I found it a little "yaoi" and was surprised about the lack of fangs too, then I read that Gackt said it was more about the characters than the fact they were vampires, gunmen, mafia lords or whatever, that they had tried to focus on the personal level, the emotions... and I found a major flaw: The lead roles were not performed by actors. I mean they both act "fine" but when you have a whole movie on your shoulders, "fine" is not enough. Also the visual effects had the quality required for a TV show, not neat enough IMO. A lot of questions were left unanswered, it felt like a much longer movie that was compressed, and not very good at that because you have some too long scenes and in contrast, the apparent lack of a few key scenes. And on a more personal opinion, I didn't like the ending! they were young and beautiful and eternal with a grown up kid and they couldn't think of anything better than suicide?
All that said... this movie has a special place in my heart, I made a group cosplay of this movie and we all became really close for a long while. It was a beautiful experience, because, for me, what I couldn't see in their faces in the whole movie, I felt when listening Orenji no Taijou (however it is spelled) In fact... when I remember the movie, or see AMVs, or see that show where Gackt sung the song dressed like Sho and HYDE-Kei was not there... ;w;
The memories move me more than the actual movie X-D I could not rate it, because of the meaning it has to me. I love the movie, with its achievements and failures.

Kagen no Tsuki
I was very excited about Last Quarter, I craved to see him in the role of Adam, a friend was a fan of the manga and sent me pics. I was very shocked about the changes in the character because Adam was supposed to be a very sweet expressive guy and in the movie he's seems to be a victim of autism :-p Still I was very moved when he cried and jumped from that roof u.u
I think the movie advances slowly, also some thinks don't seem logical, like Mizuki being in the line between life and dead enough time for his boyfriend to get to the hospital running (I thought the person who showed Mizuki the picture was the same portrayed in it).
I loved the beach scene and the texture overall is interesting, it does feel like an anime but I don't dislike it.
BUT in the end HYDE's character gets almost the same he gets in Moon Child: no reward. ¬_¬ I love/hate the epilogue where he is left alone in the boat, it is too cruel.
I have the movie too X-D It is not one of my favorite movies and I regret Adam was such a stiff character, I appreciated the Evil Eye documentary production but more weight would have been nice. Also I love the costumes *w*

Now... I want to see Gackt in BUNRAKU, Josh Hartnett said on interwiew that he was a great actor, we'll see. I can't wait!

RE: Your Thoughts On MOON CHILD and Kagen No Tsuki
I'd probably have to go back and watch those two again. I actually like MOON CHILD over Kagen no Tsuki. In Kagan no Tsuki, I didn't feel that hyde was perfect for the role and the fact he isn't much of an actor really brought the movie down.

Again, I do need to rewatch these two movies before I make better opinions because I saw them about 3 years ago.

RE: Your Thoughts On MOON CHILD and Kagen No Tsuki
Moon Child:
It has a great overall storyline, but the movie is not well executed. Gackt does a good enough job as boisterous, teenage Sho (even though he looks older than a teenager by far) as well as the mature but still loving to pose gangster Sho, and Hyde, though also not a real actor, does an incredible job of portraying the world-weariness that defines Kei's character. The characters are written beautifully, the friendships are portrayed wonderful, but in the end the movie wants too much. There are too many jumps in time, too much is left out. The friendship between Sho and Kei is one of the most beautiful and tragic relationships of any sort I have ever seen onscreen. I value the movie highly for that. If you can look beyond the things the movie shows you and think about the story underlying it all, it's wonderfully bittersweet. I think I love the movie mostly for the things it failed to show - but suffice to say I have spent a lot of time delving into the depth of the characters, and Kei is a character that fascinates me to no end.

Kagen no Tsuki:
I think here people really failed to see the acting job Hyde has done, which is largely the movie's fault to begin with. We see a very stiff, very apathetic Hyde/Adam here, which leads many to conclude that Hyde did a bad acting job. If you look at the scenes in which he portrays living!Adam though, you see a difference to his portrayal of dead!Adam. The living Adam was more open and actually just put on a facade of being cool and aloof, with an open person lingering underneath. That open person died when Adam took his own life. A very tragic, visually beautiful movie. I felt deeply sorry for Adam, not just because Hyde portrayed him. The ending broke my heart, especially because Mizuki actually doomed Adam to more loneliness in favour of an absolute jerk... It's a haunting movie, though far from groundbreaking. The movie has its lengths, unfortunately, and it severely suffers from not enough Adam/Mizuki interaction to make their connection really palpable. Overall a very nice movie, though.
