RE: The topic that will cause contraversy and death for years to come
I think VAMPS lyrics are very deep. I mean Sweet Dreams always makes me cry when I hear it.. even more so now. I think the biggest problem with VAMPS and Larc is everyone compares the two. They are separate bands with separate sounds you can't judge one based on the other. If all HYDE"s solo was all going to sound like L'arc then wouldn't it be a bit pointless to do solo? To me VAMPS > l'arc I relate MORE to VAMPS music than L'arc. Songs like Evanescent, Sweet Dreams, Time goes by, etc have very deep meanings behind them but as VAMPS have said countless times they made songs that were good for lives. VAMPS is not all fun and games for HYDE he works his butt off for us..
L'arc~en~Ciel 20th L'Anniversary was amazing!!

Is not like they intend for us to understand what a personal topic certain song is. "Ibara no Namida" for example for me sounds like a personal song. Since L'arc is not all Tetsu or all Hyde well they take turns to do songs for each of them and it turns out wonderful. But in a Sense is more formal maybe because of the Kioon - sony thing and what someone already said about Vamprose being an indie label.

Overall I think every song L'arc or Hyde or Vamps write has personal experience and their own lives as inspiration. But with Vamps the lyrics are not that "deep" in meaning. (I like them but I think most lack substance like L'arc lyrics have). It's hard to explain.. I just feel it that way Icon_confusedEllipses. They are more Easy going fun lyrics (I mean Vamps not Hyde pre-vamps).

I think not all the VAMPS songs are for having fun, the same way we can't forget Laruku released more than 10 Albums; the quantity of songs, contents etc is really diverse, so compare both groups it's not so easy. Icon_3nodding

With VAMPS, Hyde used his own personal experiences too; as he said in an interview published in May (L25 Magazine), EVANESCENT was inspired by someone he liked last Summer and now is gone.

RE: The topic that will cause contraversy and death for years to come
the great thing about music, lyrics and art of any type is that there are no hard and fast definitions. what is shallow and merely FUN to one can be deeply philosophical to another and both can be right!! AND neither might be what the composer/lyricist had in mind when the piece was written.

actually, what Hyde had in mind or was inspired by might bear no similarities to what any of us might think or even what he might admit to in a magazine. it might be very personal, and he wouldn't want to expose his feelings so openly to the world. or, people could have attached huge importance to something he hadn't considered and it would be embarrassing to make it known that fans had out-thought the lyricist. haha, these things do happen. that's not to say he doesn't reveal his feelings or inspirations truthfully in interviews, i'm sure he does that too. what is important is that the listener finds something that speaks to them in some manner, whether it is the lyric, the guitar solo, the beat of the song...... or so i think.

i don't see any difference in the amount of effort put into any of Hyde's music, whether L'Arc, earlier solo or VAMPS. he works hard and so do his various partners in which ever project he is working on.

lat thought...depth of emotion doesn't just imply romance, sorrow, angst. it can mean sex or good humor too, the whole gamut of human emotion. depth is just a measurement of degree. not style.

Like Mamikochan said, we will never know what they base their songs on and mostly interviews are not what they really think and want to say, just what they can say. And like I said I find L'arc lyrics more deep than Vamps (not their sound or anything like that, just the lyrics) and that's just my opinion. I never meant to imply that Vamps has no lyrics at all or that Hyde worked less because of that or anything like that. I know he works hard cause I was able to speak to him for a while a couple of times (off autograph signing). And I appreciate the fact that he did 10 lives in a month after all those lives in Japan. Seriously They must rest ASAP T_T.

I enjoy and Love L'arc and Vamps equally ^^

There's one thing that I think that we can all agree on the lyric thing....that hadn't found any songwriter [at least for me in Latin-America] that can write such lyrics like HYDE does. I mean, I hadn't found yet any christian song [I LOVE CHRISTIAN ROCK MUSIC] that I can compare with the strength of HYDE's Jesus Christ's lyrics.

And specially when the 99% of the songs you find are ALL about love, and it's nice to hear song about something more than that[I mean, Mission is one that I can't stop to listen].

You probably know this, but I thought I'd point out that JESUS CHRIST, or the entire FAITH album in general, isn't Christian rock, so it's a tad unfair to compare it to that. But yeah, I see what you mean. JESUS CHRIST is the song that got me into HYDE and still remains one of my favorite songs of all time. I still have a tendency to shed tears every time I listen to it, even more so live. I certainly wish they played the song at Baltimore, but well... SWEET DREAMS compensates for that, in my opinion :3

THANK YOU. That is one of the MANY reasons I love HYDE. I can't stand how most artists just jabber on and on about omg I love this girl or omg I'm soooooooooooo depressed that this girl broke up with me. Don't get me wrong, those are nice on occasion as long as they are done well, but most of them are just dry, worn out material and it's annoying because they ALWAYS discuss it in their songs. So HYDE is amazing in that he's able to sing about something OTHER than some cliché "love song." What a lot of artists seem to have a hard time understanding is that there all different kinds of emotions in the human heart, not just love and, to me, it's fun to explore all those different emotions rather than hearing about just one all the time.

Granted, the love songs he does write about are simply beautiful and capture the emotion of love accurately both musically and lyrically as opposed to a lot of other musicians where their concept of "love" serves no purpose aside from appealing to easily-moved teenage girls.

Oh, no. I wasn't suggesting you meant that. I was just inputting my own opinion. You're entitled to your own opinion as long as I approve and I have no intentions on trying to change them. Sorry if what I was saying came across wrong. D=

I don't think Hyde was joking when he talked about what inspired him to create EVANESCENT, being a private persons (as usual) didn't clarify what happened to him or what kind of "liking a person" is he talking about, the meaning is ambiguous. Icon_confused

Of course, every person is free to consider what to believe or not from the Artists.

Yeah, thanks for understanding my point. Just in case I didn't mean to compare JESUS CHRIST or the FAITH album to christian rock...what I meant was that the lyrics of this album are way stronger than others that were meant to give more direct message regarding the 'faith' thing.

After all, I don't know any other artist who has shown his 'spiritual search' [as I saw it] through his solo albums...something that maybe for the half of the music industry would be unforgettable.

And let's think straight on something else...the norm on this side of the world in the music industry is that when the singer [or all the members] of a famous group/band decides to make a solo careers...it means that they had a fight or something. And...that a reunion can only happen ten years later or when they need to make money. [Creed anyone?]

And I'm glad that in that way L'Arc~en~Ciel had proven that they have everything fine and they returned like nothing happened years later, in fact...they have supported each others projects which is great.

Remember that Yukihiro's band Acid Android played at one of VAMPS shows in Japan...and that they have attended each others' shows in support.

Where else you can see this without the record company making big no-no's or public complains about it?

To me, that's because most Christian rock artists intend to be family-friendly and friendly to sensitive ears. HYDE, on the other hand, doesn't care and will say whatever is on the top of his mind. I would have never expected an artist to say something as blunt as "God give me death," but HYDE was the only musician to have the audacity to do so with no thought as to "Hmm, that's a bit sensitive, maybe I should change it a bit so people don't get the wrong impression." HYDE's not the first to be that blunt, of course. But the difference between HYDE and other artists with that kind of mindset, though, is that HYDE is capable of being that way WITHOUT trying to offend people.

Quote:After all, I don't know any other artist who has shown his 'spiritual search' [as I saw it] through his solo albums...something that maybe for the half of the music industry would be unforgettable.
I wouldn't define it as a spiritual search as much as telling his views on religion and how the practice of religion has impacted his life as well as the whole world, but I do believe it definitely took some research and thought on his part to pull off an album like FAITH.

Quote:And let's think straight on something else...the norm on this side of the world in the music industry is that when the singer [or all the members] of a famous group/band decides to make a solo careers...it means that they had a fight or something. Not always true... well, not in Japan anyway. Buck-Tick also being an example of a still-active band in which all the members have a solo career. But you are sort of right about the fighting thing. Most artists begin their solo career when they have a musical inspiration that they don't believe, or have been told, that it will be accepted by the rest of the band. I mean, I highly doubt any of HYDE's solo songs would have ever made it as L'Arc songs. They're two completely different styles. Even if they did, the song would have been altered to fit the interest of the other band members, which can be really painful to see when a musician puts so much heart into it.

Quote:And I'm glad that in that way L'Arc~en~Ciel had proven that they have everything fine and they returned like nothing happened years later, in fact...they have supported each others projects which is great.
Well, if I remember right, most of their solo records are all on the same record label, with an exception of VAMPS (HYDE solo was originally also on the same record label before VAMPROSE) so it's not like they're selling themselves to a competitor or anything.

Quote:Remember that Yukihiro's band Acid Android played at one of VAMPS shows in Japan...and that they have attended each others' shows in support.
Yeah, that is also amazing.

Quote:Where else you can see this without the record company making big no-no's or public complains about it?
To me, I think it's because record labels in Japan seem to understand the fanbase a little better than in America. Hence HYDE actually said "Do you like crabs?" in Baltimore. Any other company would decide that it was just a fan inside joke and would be stupid to add something that the fans make jokes about.
