And personally, if I like a cover I am LESS likely to want to hear the original. I don't care about the original at all if I like the cover, and associate the song with the cover artist, not the original artist. If I do like a song it tends to be whichever version I hear first.

Honestly, I don't think I like any of the artists doing the tributes and it seems like a random mix to me, which is why I'm not buying the album at all. I hope they're all at least huge fans, because I think it would be dumb to have non-fans do a tribute album.

I'm not sure what you mean about not making this another Tokio Hotel forum since I'm not part of one. But the forum is what it is and no one is obligated to blindly love everything the band is doing, nor do they have to keep dissenting opinions a secret.

I am not worrying about how people will percieve L'Arc. I don't care one way or another. What I care about is listening to any music sung by someone who I don't enjoy listening to in the first place. Therefore, I pick and choose, dislike, and like, discard and keep.

We each have our own opinions on any artist and therefore our own comments. Popular or not.

And yeah, and I won't buy the Tribute album for my own reasons, but that doesn't mean that I don't wish the best result of it. I mean, if I didn't like/supported either VAMPS or L'Arc wouldn't be posting, right?

It feels to me that you are the one making the big deal. We are just expressing our thoughts on the matter, that is all. It isn't like the world is ending, not everyone is going to like everything the band does. Some people will love it, some people won't.

And the forum is here for people to discuss their feelings, reasons, doubts, loves and so on.

You are free to disagree of course, but I don't see how we are making a big deal when all we are doing is discussing our thoughts on things.

I am looking forward to this tribute album (which no one seems to have ripped to YouTube as of yet) but I am perfectly okay with and understanding of those who are a little more skeptical. I mean, I've gone on a dozen rants about how I don't like how VAMPS have decided to plaster naked women atop blindingly bad color schemes all over their boxes, and although many have disagreed and often misunderstood, I'd like to think that my opinion was respected. Nevertheless, I still love VAMPS' music and HYDE's lyrics despite my open criticism towards their marketing direction.

I believe this whole thing started because the guest seems to have fallen into a common internet miscommunication whereby he/she misinterpreted the tone of the other comments to sound like what I suppose is blatant whining and over-dramatizing the entire situation. Without the intention of sounding condescending, I think it's important to remember that the voice in our head may not always be the voice that they intended to convey. I'm not just directing it towards our guest either, but in general. We've all been there.

As this is a message board as opposed to say, YouTube comments, everyone is here to express specific opinions, and as far as I can tell, I haven't read anything in this thread along the lines of "What a horrible decision on L'Arc's part! I will henceforth boycott the band and refuse to listen to their music! In fact, I may just run to Japan right now and burn HYDE's house down for such an atrocious concept!"

Of course I do agree with the notion that we should be concerned, first and foremost, with our own feelings about L'Arc as opposed to that of other people, but let's face it: As weird as it is, we all have those hipsteresque pet peeves that just annoy us sometimes. As I am not particularly a fan of rap music, I may be a tad annoyed when a rap artist may decide to cover a classic (or modern) hit of an artist of an entirely different genre and cause the cover to become the more popular one. Namely because these sort of covers often tend to misunderstand the meaning of the song and make it into something different. I suppose my parents probably feel the same way about HYDE's cover of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. (Although as I am a fan of The Beatles as well, I honestly love both versions of the song) But in such a situation, I've learned that music is popular for a reason. Today's pop music may not speak to me, but apparently it does represent the feelings of today's youth, and that is the core essence of pop music.

Anyway, I'm getting way off-track. Let me just try to put in this in perspective: Somewhere along the lines, there was a miscommunication. In order to remedy this, let's just start over and take into account the current consensus:

• Majority of the members are hesitant and/or unwilling to order this album due to lack of interest or other doubts of qualitative value.
  
• VAMPkito (aka "idiot with retarded screen name") and 1 unregistered guest wait in anticipation for the results of this album.
  

(At the risk of sounding slightly hypocritical) As a general rule of thumb, let's all make a note to attempt to understand where the other side is coming from instead of getting a little ahead of ourselves. Don't let the voice in your head get the better of you as he may lead you to say things without fully thinking. Or worse yet, he may try to cause you do something you'll regret. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to hide these dead bodies under the floorboards of Chuck E. Cheese's. (The mistake here? Going to Chuck E. Cheese's!)

As I stated earlier, I am now going to buy the album where before I was not. The difference? There is NOW someone on the tribute album who I enjoy listening to.....SID.

Hm, weird, moderator log says I approved your post, Guest, but now its gone. Sorry, I don't know what happened there, and I didn't copy it so I can't repost. I tried going through my cache to find the text again but I don't see it. But the moderator log shows that I approved selected posts at 10:33pm my time, so about half an hour ago.

But I don't think we're acting like the world is ending, really. I just personally am not a fan of any of the artists so I am less than thrilled about the album. It also feels more like marketing move rather than authentic tribute, but that is just my feelings on it. Since I love the band I want to love everything they do, but in reality that just possible.

And I don't believe in the all that 'Secret' book stuff, it just seems like selective memory to me. You remember events that seem significant and forget events that don't, which makes it seem like every time I do X, Y happens. In reality I do not believe any of that because it isn't true to me. If I think I might be late, I can still end up on time. And if I think I'll make it in time I can still end up late.

I don't think my feelings change the way the world works. Now, I do think constant negative feelings can make you sick, but that is about it. Of course, disliking one thing a band is doing doesn't seem like it would be enough negativity to have any impact on my life though.

Some times I am looking forward to something and it turns out terrible. Some times I am not looking forward to something and it turns out enjoyable. So I'd still consider listening to parts of the tribute album but as of now I'm not buying it.

Also, everyone I know hates Nickelback so I certainly hope L'Arc isn't in the same category as them! I'd place them into a higher, more respected class of music. I don't consider them a band that people are ashamed for liking.

Mind you, I'm neutral about nickelback but to me they seem like the kind of band that people feel guilty about liking, due to so much hate around them. L'arc just doesn't seem like that kind of band to me.

When a fan can like or dislike equally stuff that their artist do and still support them, I believe that's the meaning of a real fan and not a 'momento fan'.
I may not like the idea of this tribute album or not feel motivated about it, but that doesn't mean that I'll stop following them and see what's next. After all this wasn't performed by them, but by other artists. Hence the word 'tribute'.

Extreme off-topic:

I actually love Nickelback's music...and I don't think that the world will plan to make my life miserable because of it. And it's the same when I say that I don't see Lady Gaga as something big, just a lucky person with catchy Madonna-like music.

I don't see the Gaga fans' tanks outside my house...so I think that I'm safe.

Like or dislike WHAT, though? No one's heard the actual songs before. That's what I'm trying to drill at.

Like or dislike the artists who are doing the songs. If I do not care for their own music, I really don't want to hear them sing someone else's either.

Like I said earlier, I'm not a huge fan of rap... and by "not a huge fan" I mean I feel tortured when I'm forced to listen to it. So let's say in an alternative universe, they announce a tribute album with nothing but rap artists... I'd probably be a little less excited, then. Since I don't rap, why would having rap artists cover L'Arc songs make it any better?

So back to this universe, not everyone here seems to like any of the artists in the album, so naturally I don't see how you can expect them to be anything other than skeptical or downright underwhelmed. Of course, there's always the slim chance that through some sort of magic, the music will reach massive appeal for one reason or the next, but more than likely these artists aren't going to sound any more appealing if you don't already like their preexisting work.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, going back to HYDE's cover of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, I didn't listen to that because I thought "Wow, someone made a cover of that song?! I should listen to it!" I listened to it because I was already a fan of HYDE (as well as The Beatles) and therefore I figured it would sound appealing. If the cover were by, say, Kanye West, then I'd probably give it a pass. It wouldn't matter how much I like The Beatles, I just don't like Kanye West.
