Just sheer peak performance

Absolute focus, incredible energy, the power of complete unison.

You were all amazing, amazing! It’s the watermark for a world-class performance.

The energy just built and built. The encore was insanity.

hyde wrung his heart out, and poured it to us. He just opens up and goes into a state of passion that is beauty, itself. I cannot say how pure the performance was.

He sang full out like this, the entire performance. Whereas that’s thrilling enough, for one song, how is it possible his voice, his energy can bring it to that level, for an hour and a half? I wholly agree with those others during this tour, who have used the word, “perfect.”

He wore a knee-length, tapered jacket that looked like thin, woven silk, with a steely sheen to it that changed color with the lights. The jacket was unbuttoned to the waist, and there was a tattered scarf of dark material just lining the inner rim of the jacket’s neckline. I tell you about his fashion in loving detail, so that you can appreciate that it was a picture, hyde in motion, in it. Dervish hyde danced and spun and made its tails fly, until he began to rock his way out of it! Well, he ripped out the back of an armhole seam, but it’s a beginning!

K.A.Z = Masterful. Whereas he tends to seem the introverted one in interviews and photo shoots, when he gets a guitar in his hands, it is power! It’s sexy, oh yes, when he plants his feet and starts in. He’s just charged with electric energy. When K.A.Z looks at the audience while playing, and you can see he knows it’s his world, now, and he’s putting it to us, and sometimes he gets this little smile on his face…it reminds one of that remark he made, “The audience was delicious.”

Ju-ken, I’m developing this theory that your energy is actually capable of spontaneous healing. You could say Ju-ken likes to keep busy. And also that the universe is kinda big. As he apparently feels he doesn’t have enough to do onstage, being the power bassist of choice for Japan’s premiere rock bands, Ju-ken has taken to simultaneously pimping the songs and the members of the band – uh, including himself - , oh, and dancing like he’s about to leave the ground, all while he solidly rocks the Hell out of us. Rockin’ the fashion, too, handsome Ju-ken.

Ari…Sexy thing! Drumming so hot, it could almost distract you entirely from just watching him, all muscles working furiously and long hair falling into his face. Ari’s attitude was pleasingly cocky. Tipping his chin up at the audience, strutting offstage, deciding to toss a memento into the crowd, at the last minute. I say it again – that drumming is Hot!

Jin seems to prefer to work the magic from a dark quarter of the stage…perhaps his night-dwelling eyes cannot abide the bright light. Or maybe he is refining his stealth, for the hunt. His deft touch so sweetens the music. Beautiful.

I am too weak from two days in a row of VAMPS, to continue at this moment.

In an open letter to VAMPS, ~~~
I’m in awe and I love you.

before i read any farther i just have to say this review was magnificently put. even though the costume was different from Baltimore, you caught the essence of Hyde and especially KAZ and the rest. just from the standpoint of the band alone, watching them and hearing them, it WAS perfect. thanks for putting it into words. The man in the mask begs to differ. Jin is objectively awesome, and plays the keyboard with such a commanding grace that I can barely contain myself when he conducts his mystical magic across the keys. His goatee is the jet black steel wool of the gods. His command of keyboard and glowy drumstick techniques are in a class by themselves........ DO NOT BAG ON MY JIN-CHAN!!!

I wasn't. I was just using him and Ari as an example. Gesh...sorry.

I was kidding btw. You're always so deadly serious, I thought you might like to know what it sounds like from an outside perspective. I was sure you'd catch on that I was joking...but I guess not. Icon_blaugh

I do get a kick out of Jin though, and wish I'd had a chance to at least wave at him. lol ......and of course Arimatsu is great too, but he's no (formerly) masked man of mystery. His drumming is awesome on Vampire Depression though.

I drove 27 hours not including stops to see this show, I came all the way from Wisconsin because even though East Coast was closer, this concert was most convenient with my friend's work schedules.

You shall be called by the VAMPS clan name, the Iron VAMPS Fan, or possibly the Iron Rose. That is some serious need to see VAMPS. Respect.

The concert was fantastic, the boys were amazing. I will say this...I did almost get kicked out. They had us get rid of all our cameras before the show and I walked 15 min back to my hotel then 15 min back because I had no where else to put it. Well when I got into the concert, for some dumb reason I thought it would be interesting to see what my phone camera could even see from my spot (we were up on a ramp so we could see the whole show, but it was far back and dark) and this was about 20 minutes before the concert started. Just as I thought it couldn't see anything, basically it looked like street lamps several feet away. I put my phone away and rocked out to the concert. 20 minutes later, the concert started and 4 songs in a security guard came by me and searched me for a camera o.O He said someone told him I had been taking pictures...which I had not outside that one before the show. That kind of sucked...but quite frankly I got to stay and that's all that matters because HYDE was fantastic, K.A.Z played like no other, and Ju-Ken ran the freakin' stage! Haha

Oh, did anyone else notice HYDE crying during Sweet Dreams? No one mentioned it so I thought I'd ask.

Oh, he was crying? You could see and hear and feel his emotion, but I wasn't close enough to see that he was crying. That makes me want to cry.

I hope he feels supported by the audience, when he opens up like that. Still, as Bill said, he's surely homesick. Surely they all are.

hyde said in a couple of difference places, that he was nervous about facing the American audience. I wish he and all the band knew how we support them. If so, they would never be nervous anywhere.

There is a network of love to gently support you - or well, sometimes to run up and glomp you!

Yeah, Japan's such a small country.....especially with the bullet trains. It seems to me that even when you're "touring the nation", you probably still get to sleep in your own bed a lot of the time. Not so in the US, obviously.

Not to mention the time difference & calling home.

No one says you have to lust after hyde, in order to appreciate the music. The rest of us just naturally Do.

Anyway, you’d better get yourself to a live soon, because I’m here to tell you that K.A.Z is even better looking in person, than in 2-D. It’s true. You may faint, now.

lol so true. I'm so happy I was even able to see him in 3D twice! I'm glad both hyde and kaz were as amazing on the west coast as on the east coast. (hehe! I'm posting this through my new phone!)

Ssynny, I didn't think they could be better than expected. And they were. I was so excited to meet hyde in person, I made a complete fool of myself, at the signing. Still, I had no idea how powerful and moving and sexy - oh, and funny, sometimes - it would be to see him live.

I refer you to my full review, if you didn't catch my loving observations.

Hope that icey doesn't mind they let the rest of the band onstage. - I'm just teasing you, icey! I'm teasing!

Also,

hyde was beguilingly pale, at the signing. Yes, even "tired" is conferred grace, when worn by hyde.

K.A.Z, as I've said above, plus the most charming smile.

Thanks for sacrificing your daytime sleep, Boys!

And the quote from K.A.Z may actually have been, "The fans were delicious." But then he quickly said he was just joking. Yes, K.A.Z .

Oh! P.S. - oooo, congrats on a new phone!
lol thanks!

Who would tell on you? That just sounds so preschool, even if it was one of the staff members

Haha, thanks >.< He's been my favorite musician since I was a sophomore in High School and I graduated almost 3 years ago so...the need was strong XD

Oh yeah...well I'm not sure if everyone thinks the way I do or if I'm just crazy but I feel like the song is for his song...down to when the phone was ringing towards the end of the song it just makes me flash to him calling his family, asking how they were that day, how much he misses them. I started crying during the song because I miss my younger brother who I see about once every two months (he's 3). Maybe the whole meaning is in my head but yeah he even wiped his eyes kind of nonchalantly at the end.

I have no clue. I mean I know, no cameras, but for someone to send him over there after four songs? At least half an hour had went by since I had the phone out and not only did I feel stupid while he went through my things, I missed a good part of the song and it was kind of a mood killer for a while.

Yeah, I've been trying to convince folks here for a while that it's about his son, Megumi, or both. Icon_blaugh

It's not just you, it's clear that it's about being away from your loved ones, the sound of the phone call. I have particularly loved the line, "Were you wonderful, today?" that he feels they are wonderful, and he imagines missing a day of them being their wonderful selves.

I listened to that song on their myspace, yesterday, and was crying. I haven't been able to afford the CD, yet, because of saving money for the concerts.

But you know what? After hearing these songs live, I don't want to hear them any other way. I want to follow them, and listen to them play, and hear and watch and feel hyde singing, and it's worth whatever it takes (well, as long as I can get a few shattered hours of sleep and some food to sustain me, and not get burnt up by the sun entirely!).

gah! I need a ride down the coast! Anybody willing to take me along??

I don't blame you. In reality, after driving all that way for the concert, looking back it wasn't too horrible. If one of us got tired, we would nap for an hour and seriously we'd be fine to drive and stay awake for at least another 8. If I didn't already take a week away from work I would so have gone to other shows...
