I have to say that it doesn't surprise me to see only a cut down setlist for the US DVD. Remember: There is going to be a VAMPS Live 2009 DVD, too, and since they are essentially from the same tour, meaning the 2009 tour, the setlist is basically the same. And I do believe if any Japanese fan, who ARE the main base going to buy the DVD, would have to choose between both DVDs... the choice would not fall on the US-DVD. It's a simple marketing thing to cut the costs on the US DVD low. I think they still tried to give a maximum input into the DVD without exploding costs - which is why there's going to be a documentary, which I think is a great thing for the DVD!

Actually, after doing a bit of searching, by searching I mean sleeping, I've actually come to like the fact that it only has ten songs. Originally I was intending on getting the DVD upon its release, but seeing as it's not a full show (especially not a full show that I actually attended [not to say that my not attending it detracts from the awesomeness, but it loses a bit of its utility for that reason]), then I can use my money to buy something that I'll probably use more often. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing anyone for this, but to be honest, even if I did buy the DVD, I'll forget I have it and end up looking it up on YouTube anyway.

I've been meaning to get HYDE's 666 album for quite awhile, but last year's tour and album got in the way of that, and the year before I was hung up on the Versailles USA tour, and the year before that I had to have FAITH first and the year before that I was barely into HYDE's solo stuff. So since the USA tour's DVD has much less utility than I'd expected, I think I'm finally free to get 666.

Though I would also love to save up for the new album coming in July... god damn it =/ - Well, since the new album is... new... then I'll have more time for that.

Even so... L'Arc~en~Ciel released SMILE Tour both in the US and Japan, both of which are full concerts. (do correct me if I'm wrong). Then again, the US release was because L'Arc was under Tofu label, which for some reason, disappeared off the face of the Earth!!! (WTF)

Plus L'Arc released the Paris DVD of their Europe -> Asia Tour and are going to release another DVD that was performed in Tokyo (double check this please). So then... why would they release the Tokyo DVD?

They have always been milking us for money so to me... the whole cutting down the setlist thing for the US tour is pretty bullsh-.

Keep in mind, like for SWEET DREAMS, it was already in the album, so why would they release it as a single after? They only added a few more version. If it really cost them that much to make the a disc, then they should've just included the extra versions on another single (like EVERGREEN [dist.] c/w COUNTDOWN) and the acoustic video on these coming DVDs.

I didn't find anything wrong with The Wiltern's sound. (either that or something is wrong with my ears) And even if it did, there shouldn't be recording problems. With our technology today, I pretty sure a lot of things could be fixed in editing.

Plus I think our concert (wiltern)'s setlist was pretty butchered. We didn't get HELLO, SEASON'S CALL, DEEP RED, MISSION, (you name the rest). Overall, it was really unfair to us =/ But i guess that may be another reason why this DVD is going to be what it's going to be.

We're not talking about releasing different versions of the same DVD for various global regions, though. This is a DVD specifically just for the US IN ADDITION to the regular 2009 DVD being released. And they are being released within a few months from each other!

With Paris: Well, the full Paris concert was released on DVD, true. But the documentary came EXTRA and the costs for both together are gigantic, if you want to get originals. Personally, I'd say a cut down setlist is a small price to pay if you get a documentary on the same DVD for a rather fair price. Remember, the new L7 release by L'arc comes nearly two years AFTER that tour. The VAMPS DVDs come in a much shorter time span.

Also I think it's a great thing that even after his Japanese fans made Hyde feel bad about the US tour, they're going to release a DVD specifically FOR the US tour. It's a GOOD thing. I don't really see why you'd feel robbed when you are GETTING something EXTRA. They could have released the 2009 DVD with some documentary scenes from the US (see Faith tour), but instead you are getting "your own" DVD with 10 songs AND a whole documentary ONLY set within the USA. I don't really see the bad deal you are getting here, sorry.

Personally, I think Sweet Dreams was released because it's a song CLEARLY dedicated both to Hyde's family and his fans. With the way they did the PV, you could even go so far as to say that it's just showing how special the US fans are to VAMPS. Are you honestly going to bash them for that? I don't understand that, I really don't. And yes, of course they also wanted to make more money, which is the reason why singles are released in the first place instead of doing what Hyde wishes he could do - compose and then take it to the live stages directly.

Well, I guess we all have our own opinions, but personally, I find that the show itself is a lot more interesting than the documentary. It's like if they were to release a music CD and then cut back on the music to make room for how they MADE the music. Don't get me wrong, the documentaries are all fun and interesting, too, but it's not the part we were all looking for.

But like I expressed in an earlier post, I understand that the price is very hefty, but that's just one of several possible reasons for cutting back on the set list. I tend to think the actual reason it only has ten songs is because they wanted to focus on the tour overall, not just The Wiltern. Besides, if the pricing is the issue, then that's just the point, they shouldn't release so many things in such a quick time span.

Again, probably because the concert is the main point of the DVD. It's like saying that if a movie director gives its overseas audience more behind-the-scenes coverage but deletes thirty minutes of the movie itself, then they're doing something special for the overseas fanbase. But then, that's just me.

I don't she's bashing the fact that they released it as much as how it was released, nor do I think she's really bashing. It just wasn't necessary to release the same song twice just to release an acoustic version and a PV when you could just as easily just release the PV and acoustic version through other means that would be twice as economical. I honestly think the main reason it was re-released the way it was is simply because it is the most well-received song and they wanted to rack in the extra money they could for selling it separately. That way people who don't want to or don't have the money for the whole album can buy the single. It's not a bad nor uncommon marketing strategy, but to hardcore fans, it's not as preferred to. You know, us fans always wanting MORE, MORE, MORE [/Chris Crocker]

And there is no evidence that suggests that SWEET DREAMS is really dedicated to his family. I know the lyrics make it sound like that, but a song is a work of art, which can mean MANY things, not just the meaning we want it to be. HYDE and K.A.Z both keep their personal lives very personal (which I think is a good thing, because I really do not like those type of celebrities that over-glamorize their life by having everyone and their mother in it), so for all we know, HYDE could have been thinking about spaghetti while writing the lyrics while K.A.Z could have just easily been watching The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy when composing.

I apologize if my post came off rude and whiny, but it's good to have conversations like these, makes the forum more lively. anyways

I don't think the US DVD is SPECIFICALLY for the US. I mean, sure, it's about the US, but it's not going to be in the US for us to purchase. We still have to order it with overseas shipping and for those of us who still have trouble ordering stuff off the internet, it's not easily accessible. For example, L'Arc's SMILE US Tour DVD was RELEASED in America just for us because of TofuRecords, no overseas shipping required. With the US DVD being release as it will, I think you're right, it's more for the Japanese audience to see more of VAMPS adventure in America rather than him performing. But I think, either way, including the entire performance wouldn't hurt anybody.


Now going to the Paris L7 DVDs. I meant that there's going to be ANOTHER L7 DVD. One's that going to be release sometime this year. So in total, there's Paris Documentary Only, Paris Live, and now this upcoming one.
And with the whole "time span" thing you were saying, I really dont see how that would affect the outcome of the DVD. VAMPS or L'Arc could take as long as they want and still include just 10 songs.

And what do you mean by Japanese fan made hyde feel bad? Could you clarify that? Perhaps an article?

Now you really made me feel bad about the last paragraph you wrote, Inkcharm. :( No I'm not bashing on VAMPS. But like VAMPkito said, there is no proof that SWEET DREAMS was dedicated to his family. (if there is an article, please provide it) I don't think hyde ever shares his inspiration of lyrics-making with the world. Although I did remember reading an article about what motivated him to write EVERGREEN.
And now if VAMPS really wanted to make more money, which they have been and will be lol, then there should be no hesitation to make the VAMPS US 2009 2 disc with full concert and documentary.

Well, I think he/she meant that the cost of releasing two DVD's in such a short elapse of time was very hefty. Think about it like this- suppose, two members of your family had a birthday one month after the other, but you could only afford so much. You'd either have to slim down one of the presents for one of the family members or wait a much longer time to give one their present. What I think is that VAMPS wanted the two DVD's to be released in such close proximity for the very reason that they wanted to try to satisfy both audiences, who were both expecting a live DVD around the same time, which is why they plan on releasing it so soon instead of waiting.

That kind of confused me too. The VAMPS MySpace blog occasionally has HYDE telling us how he felt the US fans are a lot more open and relaxed than the Japanese fans, but I've yet to see anything about them making him feel bad.

I've actually seen some things about EVERGREEN, too. Rather or it's true or not, I'm not sure. But I remember seeing a ROENTGEN interview on YouTube about a year or two ago in which HYDE said he's usually not aware of any personal inspiration for his songs and that he usually doesn't realize how his personal life influences his music until after he writes it. I'll see if I can find it if it hasn't already been deleted.

It doesn't matter how much they space out their releases. They can put out a dozen items and it's really up to us to buy it. It's our job to conserve our spendings. Like you said earlier, VAMPkito, you still haven't got 666 yet and it has been 7 years already and they are still selling it.

I really ignore why they made it only 1 dvd with 10 tracks, I appreciate the documentary, but I really DO HOPE they include english subs! pleasepleaseplease!!! Gackt's done it already! It cannot be that hard, if they really want to give us a treat, let it be subs *o*

And that thing Inkcharm mentions about japanese fans making Hyde feel bad about the USA tour, I really wonder a lot about that!
Because I felt really bad when during a comment about the USA tour, Hyde wrote that overseas fans made him appreciate the japanese fans even more, I felt sort of rejected, and not only me, also other fans from USA, Mexico, and South America. I never heard about such situation of Japanese fans giving him a hard time, I am really curious, if you could make it clearer please, Inkcharm?

Regarding Japanese fans:

I haven't seen an article but I have read from other people that fans on Hydeist (and perhaps 2ch?) were...not thrilled about Hyde coming to America. Some of them were happy, of course. But some didn't like it..and to make it worse we had autograph sessions which made some of them jealous.

There was also complaints from friends in Hydeist that there was tension between the Japanese members and the foreign members.

Some people are quite possessive of their favorite celebrities and don't want to share them with other fans.

Regarding DVD:
I think I would rather have one full Japanese dvd with America clips, like with Faith dvd. The way it is now, if I want the full concert I have to buy the Japanese dvd and if I want to see US footage I have to buy US dvd.

I would much prefer it if it were all put together instead of having to import two expensive dvds. At the moment, I'm not sure if I'll be getting the Japan tour dvd.
