Ohhhhh my gosh. Replay might be my favorite VAMPS song ever now. Gosh, that falsetto... that guitar... that bass... that EVERYTHING! I don't even know where to begin!

What I like about both Ahead and Replay is that they're very unique in terms of style. These are definitely VAMPS songs. While they do have many trademark HYDE tropes, they are very much their own thing. The VAMPS debut album and their Beast album are amazing, but they're more like a mixed bag of different projects from HYDE's career (some songs that sound a lot like L'Arc~en~Ciel, others that sound a lot like songs from HYDE's 666 and Faith albums) with bits of experimentation here and there. These songs don't have that. While they do fit alongside the other songs beautifully, they're not derivative of the other songs in any way. They stand out as their own!

In addition, the Beast album had a lot of throwbacks to older styles of music. These songs have great homages to 90's-style production methods, while still sounding very much modern. They make great use of both synthesized and analogue instruments. The great thing about HYDE solo and VAMPS in general is that they make use of digital effects on the vocals (echo, reverb, etc.) but only enough to add depth. It seems to me that a lot of artists today look at music from the 80's and notice that a great deal of reverb was added to the vocals, then assumed that it was the reverb in and of itself that made the songs great. It's like making cinnamon cookies under the assumption that more cinnamon will make it better. The effects that are used on HYDE's vocals do not aim to enhance the vocal performance, but to give the audio illusion of depth and distance. This is especially evident in Replay.

I don't even know what more to say. Color me impressed, not that I expected any less.
