Well, I think he was going for a VAMPS photoshoot look, not a VAMPS live look. Not that he isn't drop-dead amazing in person as well, but the photoshoots are the image he's probably best known for, and as such, it would make more sense to emulate his appearance in photos rather than on video.

Don't quote me on this for I can't find the source, but I believe HYDE once said in an interview that aesthetically, VAMPS lives are very minimalistic. In Faith Live, I don't think he was even wearing foundation, and in the 2009 US lives, he wore a very loose, liquid foundation (if any at all).

As far as eyeshadows go, you're right. He definitely doesn't wear them very often in previous VAMPS lives, but you might notice that in 2012 he started wearing a lot more makeup, to include eyeliner, during the VAMPS tour. This is especially evident during the Beast on the Beach live photos.

And you're right on the eyeliner, but I think he does a splendid job making the eyeliner look very authentic despite the difference in type. Of course, you have to remember that makeup is a highly personalized art that has to be adjusted for each individual's own personal aesthetics. If he did it exactly the same as HYDE, it probably wouldn't look right on him. But like you said, depends on the HYDE look you're going for. If not that, then probably pretty much any shot from the Faith tour pamphlet.

So yeah, I think he did a splendid job... minus the fangs which are a bit too obtrusive, and is thankfully something that is only seen on HYDE during a few music videos.
