RE: BEAST is available on Japanese iTunes NOW!!!!
Okay, now that I've settled down a bit and can listen to the songs for what they are, I must say I'm quite impressed. Thus far, I'm really liking this album better than the previous one. In terms of music anyway. I haven't seen any lyrics to them yet aside from MEMORIES, so my respect may go up or down upon seeing them.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but the main thing I have against this album is... well... HYDE's vocals. They don't sound as great as they usually do. They still sound beautiful, but they're... well... not the vocals I fell in love with. Please tell me I'm not the only one who notices the difference?
But surprisingly, it's not enough of a setback to keep me from loving the album, or what I've heard of it so far.
EUPHORIA - The song initially turned me off because of just how weird it is. The way it changes in terms of sound and tone baffled me. It sort of reminds me of L'Arc~en~Ciel's Shinshoku -lose control-, only more metal-esque. It starts off slow but really seductive, then goes to metal, then goes to emotional hard rock. From there, the vocals become more and more intense until it becomes really growly. At first, it seemed like HYDE just didn't know what he wanted the song to be. After listening to it again (and under a more positive state of mind), you can see the effect he was going for and... it's AWESOME! Great song!
VAMP ADDICTION - I'm still against the name, because its just downright stupid and easy to confuse with LOVE ADDICT. But musically, it's really awesome! Some of you might remember I brought up a topic where I pointed out that Tetsu was wearing Sonic shoes in a certain L'Arc picture. Well, this is just further reason why VAMPS and/or L'Arc should do compositions for Sonic. It sounds A LOT like Crush40, the masterminds behind many of the soundtracks in the Sonic the Hedgehog games. Only this is better as HYDE's vocals are better than Crush40's vocalist, and K.A.Z's composition is just pure win.
REVOLUTION - Once again, this song initially turned me off because of its silly nature and scratchy vocals. In a way, it kind of reminds me of what initially turned me off with both TROUBLE and SEX BLOOD ROCK N' ROLL. The vocals aren't great and it's a lot different than what we're used to hearing from VAMPS. But listening to it again, it's really great. HYDE even said he wrote the song attempting to the feeling of TROUBLE. It's a wonderful song and something I'd love to experience live. I'm still not a fan of HYDE's vocals in this song, but the funny thing is that they don't NEED to sound good in this one. It's about having fun, not about sounding good, so it's forgivable simply because it seems like it'd be fun live.
THE PAST - This is... really interesting. I can't say I was turned off by this song upon first hearing it, but it felt weird. I guess it's because I was expecting something completely different. The funny thing about the name of a song is that it can really change your opinion on it. I don't quite know what I was expecting with a name like THE PAST, but it wasn't this. Once I got over the fact that the connotation of the name doesn't quite match the music of the song, I gave it an objective listen and it's a great song. Something I could listen to over and over again.
PIANO DUET - Oh dear lord, where do I begin?! This song is tops. Again, there's a lot of timing involved in it. When I first heard it, it put a smile on my face when I most needed it. This most certainly isn't the first time VAMPS have done this and I doubt it will be the last. That aside, it's an amazing song regardless of your mood. You can feel the heart and soul put into it. When K.A.Z said he wrote the song with the image of an adult and a child playing the piano together, I was expecting something beautiful, but not quite this beautiful. This is K.A.Z's first piano composition and it sort of shows, but that's not to say it's bad. In fact, I think there's a charm to it. It feels so simple, but there's just something about it that you have to love. The sooner someone translates and/or finds the lyrics for this, the better!
That's all I've listened to for now! The album is a must-have. It's just a shame that I also must have money to get the album, which I don't.
