I checked amtrak and it seems like its a full day trip on the train :O do you guys think flying will be about the same price. I did a bit of reading and some websites suggest that flying costs about the same but gets you there in like an hour. So I would love to hear what you guys reckon!! or what others plan on doing

Southwest Airlines & Jetblue usually have pretty good deals. And yes, it costs about the same and you get there in more than half the time. It's about an 1:30 minute flight from LA to SF.
It was about a $40 difference between flying and the train when I checked last year before booking a flight. Not worth it for the time difference I thought.

If you're not planning to go to the LA show, then taking the train is cool. I've taken the train from Berkeley to Los Angeles before...and it took half of forever. There was a lot of traffic on the rails, so it took me nearly 9 hours to get home. In addition, there is not a train that runs directly from LA to SF. You'll have to take an AMTRAK bus through the Grapevine, or if you go up the coast, you'll have to take an AMTRAK bus from San Luis Obispo to SF. Flying would be the better option if you are going to both west coast shows, and of course, wouldn't mind paying the extra $$.
