"Seppun" or "Kuchizuke?" - VAMPkito - 01-27-2013 Okay, this may be a relatively stupid question, but this is something that has always confused me about the opening song on the "Smile" album. Everywhere I go, there seems to be two different names it goes by. The first is "Kuchizuke," which literally means "Kiss." I guess that would make sense given the hot subject matter of the song. Occasionally, though, I see it listed as "Seppun," which is literally Japanese for... "Seppun" I guess. I don't know. So I was wondering which one was the more accurate title and can someone clarify why it seems to have two names? Thanks in advance! I don't have my copy handy or I would dig it out and check what is written on it. But I think it is seppun. So I am not much help at all.......... God I hope we get a tour this year! So I can't help you with the other title. RE: "Seppun" or "Kuchizuke?" - Tokio - 01-27-2013 Huh, I think I've only known it as kuchizuke, not seppun. Maybe I just don't pay attention. On a google search I did find this: "Translator's Notes: You will also find people calling this song Seppun, because Hyde used the Kanji in the title. However, on the radio L'Arc called this song Kuchizuke, so we're going with what the band says" From here. (The actual page isn't loading for me but I did get the cache to load) However, I don't see anything else mentioning anything about the name. I couldn't get the site to load either....but enjoyed the name of it. Megchan's translations also called it Kuchizuke. RE: "Seppun" or "Kuchizuke?" - VAMPkito - 01-28-2013 These two videos refer to it as "Seppun." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbFtuzE9d7Y http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m7nU22UGEQ Wikipedia, I think, sort of keeps changing it from Seppun to Kuchizuke and vice versa. At least, I think I remember it being listed as "Seppun" at one point. Love~en~Ciel's lyrics section lists as Kuchizuke and... I'M CONFOOSED. If the kanji read "seppun" than that is the name of the song. However, if the band or anyone else wants to call it by Kuchizuke, who cares? It is still the same song and why don't they sing it anymore? I still smile every time I watch the 20th anniversary video when hyde calls "Good Luck My Way" "Good TRY My Way". So even they get confused at the titles. We need another tour!!!!! RE: "Seppun" or "Kuchizuke?" - VAMPS + American Street Team + - 01-29-2013 According to my co-worker (who is actually from Japan), "seppun" is an old-fashioned way of saying "kiss." "Kuchizuke" is also an old-fashioned term for "kiss," but it is more recent than "seppun." So, basically, both words mean "kiss," just one term is much more old-fashioned than the other. Hope this helps. ![]() RE: "Seppun" or "Kuchizuke?" - mamikochan - 01-31-2013 i've only seen the title listed as Seppun a few times on YT vids. mostly i've seen the romanized version translated as Kuchizuke. that makes sense to me as it is the more modern word for Kiss and it is the first word Hyde sings. "kuchizuke o kawasou itsuwari o hazushi". my old Tofu US version of SMILE lists it as Kuchizuke, while the Japanese limited version has the kanji..which does translate out by several online translators as seppun. ![]() so, i think i have to go with what they have called it onstage or in interviews to get the feel they were going for. not an old-fashioned kisss, but one that packs a punch. ![]() i've seen some other lyricists use obscure kanji in their lyrics purposely to make a point perhaps, but then sing the more commonly known word instead, so it isn't unheard of to do that. ^ ^ RE: "Seppun" or "Kuchizuke?" - VAMPkito - 02-03-2013 I think I'll just refer to it as THAT SONG. Makes things much easier. Although I think it's clear that the song was clearly intended to be named "Kuchizuke." |
