You beat me to it!

Interesting to hear his thoughts on the comparison of L'arc and Vamps
I didn't know this! Thanks for the link!!
i don't know why did he said that, okay he can be a drunken master in vamps, highschool gang leader with his weird yellow hair , but he should not said something like that. l'arc is an idol band? i feel weird becos i start to jump into the fandom without noticing his and others looks. they were pretty or not i didn't know. my love to them just simply becos of their music . i saw their video for the first time on my 2nd l'anniversary in 2002, so i don't think l'arc is an idol band eventough they're sometimes sound poppish.
but i see contradiction here.. if he wants to be look less pretty than he's in l'arc why he wants to take a part in twilight saga?.. thoose sparkling vampire not fit with vamps image. or he wanna rob all rob pratz fangirls so he cannot walking freely in US anymore... he needs moar fangirl?
Hyde, plz plz plz dun do Twilight T_T
HYDE, I will go to your house and strangle you if you do Twilight. BUT, if you do, I will forgive you because you sound less interested in Twilight itself and more into the money you can get from it.

That aside, my respect for HYDE has grown yet again! I'm glad he understands the fans, and doesn't just shove them aside as though they weren't priority, and that he's very objective about his work.

As for L'Arc being an idol band, I might have to agree, but I wouldn't know. You have to understand that those who don't live in Japan don't get the luxury of seeing their PV first, so most new fans first hear them as a result of Animes. However, in Japan, the PV is played often and therefore more people will see them before hearing them, which has a large influence on what people think of them. (Although I disagree; I think HYDE looks very pretty in VAMPS too <3)

The only thing that bugs me about the article is that it incorrectly states that HYDE writes all the songs while K.A.Z just programs it, when, as you all know, they BOTH write the songs while HYDE writes all the LYRICS, and while they probably did get it right that HYDE does lead and direct the band, the expressions they used make it seem like he's 99% of the band. I know that VAMPS originally started as HYDE's solo project and you all know the story, but they misinterpret his role just a bit. BUT aside from that, they did manage to explain HYDE's fame in Japan and the differences between said fame and the fame he gets in America.

All very interesting! Thank you so much for posting!

Well, I love L'arc more than VAMPS but has nothing to do with the looks, it is because of the music. I love their studio records. SEX BLOOD ROCK'NROLL might be fun live... but I will never chose it live or in CD over HEAVEN'S DRIVE. I hope we fans are not as shallow as he thinks :-p I mean, he is pretty, that's for sure, but a lot of guys in KAT-TUN are pretty too, but they don't sing as good as him! that's why I'm not a KAT-TUN fan, ie.
About Twilight... sure! He could play Bella and Edward's daughter X-D

Agree with u, I mean if he doesn't care about how he looks can't wait to see him when he does xD lol I wonder if he found us pretty like he said? TOT yay~ xD
Ugh! I hate that article for labeling L'Arc~en~Ciel "visual kei." L'Arc is an amazing band with some great music while looking good too of course. I wouldn't take hyde's comment on L'Arc being an idol band too seriously. hyde has always joke around in his interview and I'm sure he knows L'Arc success has a lot to do with their music as well and not just their looks. And if fangirls only like them for their looks, then I feel very sorry for them.

And hyde starring in Twilight??? haha I might watch it just because hyde is in it.

I don't think they were labeling them as Visual Kei, just stating that they're popular amongst fans of the genre, especially to fans who don't even know what V-Kei is and use it as a stupid excuse for whenever a band does something extraordinarily different, weird, or actually interesting. (Ex. A GUY IS JUMPING OFF A BUILDING IN THE 'DIVE TO BLUE' PV. THAT MAKES IT VISUAL KEI!) Besides, they seemed very educated in L'Arc's rejection of the label. - Also, I don't think HYDE was saying that people ONLY like L'Arc because of their looks; what he means is that their looks play a large part in how people perceive them. It's a "Good Looks + Good Music" relationship, not a result of one or the other, where as with VAMPS it's a "Good Music" sort of relationship. No bonuses like extremely good looks. (To be honest, though, I like the visual style better in VAMPS)

Though as much as I sort of agree with HYDE on L'Arc being an idol band (in a way, not entirely), I think he misses the fact that the style of L'Arc and the style of VAMPS is different. L'Arc has been around for 19 years and has since performed approximately the same style (musically) with little change. VAMPS, on the other hand, is a compilation of different genres, ranging from things that are like L'Arc as well as hard rock among others. Because VAMPS is relatively new (only two years old, but if you want to count K.A.Z's collaboration with HYDE as part of their history, then technically seven), people have developed expectations. When they hear HYDE's voice, they expect it to sounds like it does in L'Arc~en~Ciel, not punk, metal, and whatever else HYDE has in mind. If L'Arc~en~Ciel were more like VAMPS and vice-versa, then VAMPS would probably be the preferred artist.

Of course, I'm not saying that's the ONLY reason people like L'Arc over VAMPS. For the most part, it's just that their music is more well-received by others, simple as that. But expectations have a lot to do with it, which is why Yukihiro can get away with being so polar opposite of L'Arc in Acid Android. A drummer's solo project usually has no expectations as they lack a distinct sound and get the least screen time of all the members. (Not to sound like I'm trying to say they're useless; they're a vital part of the band, but probably the least recognized as a result)

That's just my outlook on it. Again, everyone is different and the reasons I've mentioned doesn't apply to any specific person's opinion nor do they suggest that any one person's preference is better or inferior to another.

Only if he manages to act in such a way that he seems self-aware as to how bad the movie is.
