Ahhh....I love San Francisco!!! *lol* Ok, with that said, here's some useful information about the lovely city that is San Francisco (Don't say, "San Fran." I heard it makes you sound like even more of a tourist). *lol* Ok, the main public transportation system is called the MUNI. The MUNI is a bus system and train system. Depending on where you plan on staying in San Francisco will determine which you will use. Thus, I recommend checking out the trip planner feature here:

http://www.sfmta.com/cms/home/sfmta.php

It should provide you with different options in terms of getting you to the Venue. The Great American Music Hall is here:

Powell is one of the main streets in San Francisco. If you somehow end up in Union Square, you're in downtown San Francisco. One thing to note that if you're driving, there are A LOT of one-way streets in S.F., so keep that in mind. I would avoid driving in downtown S.F., if you can help it. There's always a lot of traffic and if you're not too familiar with the area, the one-way streets can prove to be a pain in the you-know-what. In addition, parking is a nightmare. You may be able to score parking in a parking garage, but I would call the Great American Music Hall in advance and find out about nearby parking before you go.

--------------------------------------------

If you happen to be staying somewhere in the East Bay (i.e. in cities such as Oakland, Richmond, Berkeley *GO BEARS!*, Fremont, etc...), then you would need to take BART to S.F. BART or "Bay Area Rapid Transit" is fun when it's on time and you're not running late. Actually, the BART is very efficient and fast! If you're traveling to San Francisco from the East Bay, it goes under the bay, which is really cool and loud, I might add. Any BART line traveling west will take you to San Francisco, which is great because it makes everything less confusing. These BART lines go to San Francisco:

+ Richmond/Daly City - Millbrae
+ Fremont/Daly City
+ SFO/Millbrae
+ Pittsburg Bay Point/Millbrae
+ Fremont/Daly City
+ Dublin/Pleasanton to Daly City/Millbrae

*Basically, any BART that is says it's going to "Daly City," "Millbrae," or "SFO" will take you to San Francisco. I would recommend getting off at the following stops: "Montgomery," "Powell (you'll end up inside the Westfield center/mall when you exit the BART)," or "Civic Center (this should be only if you missed the other stops)."

Please visit the BART's website here for more information: http://www.bart.org

-----------------------------------------------------------------

For those of you flying into San Francisco, the BART station is conveniently located INSIDE the airport. So, when you exit the airport, you can just simply take the BART and MUNI to your hotel, rather than spending a lot of $$ on a taxi. While taxis are cool in N.Y., they are not so much here in California.

-------------------------------------------

Here are some very useful numbers:
411 - information line (anywhere in the U.S.)

911 - for those that don't know, this is the emergency line. They're serious, too, when they mean ONLY for emergencies!! Making a false 911 call can get you into some SERIOUS trouble!!

511 - Bay Area transportation information hotline. This number really sucks, so please try to plan your trip BEFORE you leave. Or if you get lost, go to the nearest shop or restaurant and ask for directions.
I have a question, what if we plan on going but on the caltrain? How can we get from the last stop of the caltrain (basically the caltrain station) to the Great American Hall? Thanks!

Get off at the CalTrain station and take the BART into San Francisco. Get off at Powell and then take the MUNI to the venue. You should check out the MUNI's website for more info.

Much VAMPS-love,
H.P.
I used to take Caltrain to SF all the time, loads of MUNI buses stop at the station. If you exit at Townsend street (turn left after disembarking/entering the station) you'll see MUNI signs. If you're worried about getting lost/taking the wrong bus like I am, just get on the 47 (pretty sure you'll have to cross the street so you're going the right direction) and get off at O'Farrell, should be about a 25 minute ride. Then walk down O'Farrell till you hit the GAMH.

Here's the current schedule for the 47, but it could change by October, so check again before you actually leave.

Also, a map taken from the MUNI trip planner in the sidebar of the main site linked in the first post. Good thing to play around with.
